The Brinjal Plant (Solanum melongena), also known as Eggplant or Baingan, is a popular warm-season vegetable belonging to the Solanaceae family. It is widely cultivated across tropical and subtropical regions for its glossy, fleshy fruits that come in shades of purple, green, white, and striped varieties. Brinjal plants grow up to 2–4 feet tall, with broad green leaves and violet flowers. The fruits vary in shape and size, from small round types to long slender ones. The plant grows best in warm climates, with an ideal temperature range of 20°C to 35°C, and requires well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter. Seeds are usually sown in nursery beds and transplanted after 4–5 weeks. Regular watering, proper spacing, and pest control help ensure healthy growth. The crop is typically ready for harvest within 70–90 days after transplanting. Brinjal is highly nutritious and low in calories, containing fiber, potassium, and antioxidants that support heart health and digestion. It is used in a variety of dishes such as curries, bharta, and pickles. Easy to grow and productive, the brinjal plant is an excellent choice for home and commercial gardens alike.
